Yes, you were underwhelmed by the LEGO Hulkbuster Ultron Edition, but fear not! You are about to be saved by famous Singaporean Mecha builder Kelvin Low AKA Chubbybots and his LEGO Hulkbuster Ultron Edition MOD!

Chubbybots has only gone and modified the official LEGO Hulkbuster Ultron Edition to get it more in line with the film version – and I for one, this he’s done an amazing job!

The first and the most striking thing you’ll notice is the extra bulk in the shoulders and the chest. The Hulkbuster armour is humanoid in proportions – though stretched the limits akin to Hulk, if you look a muscley human, like Arnold Schwarzenegger, you’ll see that the chest area usually bulks out from the slender belly/waist area. This is one of the problems I had with the Official LEGO Hulkbuster Ultron Edition, as it just looked too flat. The revised version of Chubbybots fixes this to great effect.

Instructions and Guide Video

Not only does Chubbybots take the time to figure out how to improve the LEGO Hulkbuster Ultron Edition, but he also takes the time to create a video that details each addition he makes. Tho this isn’t a piece by piece breakdown, you should be able to figure out what goes into each addition section that he adds. This is a really nice addition and I have included the video below.

Lego Ideas Hulkbuster

I was one of the 10,000 people that were a little upset, the fantastic set from Raychow didn’t get green-lit by LEGO. It looked AMAZing and far superior to the one that LEGO has finally given us. However, I feel that the additions and mods to this set get pretty close to the UCS Hulkbuster set I have been waiting for! And now I just have to figure out if I am ready to splash out the money for the set and all the additional bricks/sets I’ll need for the modification of the original set.

For more on the LEGO Ideas Hulkbuster UCS, you can go the LEGO ideas page, or you can check out Raychow’s Flickr

Final Thoughts

It’s always a shame when you feel you don’t get the best set you can from LEGO, and this set just feels like they removed bricks right at the end of production to hit a lower price point. Some things just don’t see, quite right for an official UCS style set. The £119.99 price tag seems high for a model that doesn’t closely resemble the Hulkbuster we know and love and seems a shame that a £20 – £30 addition would probably be all that was needed to get an AMAZING set.

However, where LEGO dropped the ball, Chubbybots has stepped in and given a LEGO Hulkbuster set that more closely resembles the film version, and the version from the comics. If you like Ironman and the Hulkbuster suit and decide to buy the official set, I think you will be attempting the upgrade before long – It’s just so damn pretty!

Pictures of the completed set below 🙂

LEGO announced the Ultron Edition Hulkbuster recently, and though it is a few steps above the standard version they are releasing to coincide with the film (Avengers: Infinity War) – I have to say, I am a little underwhelmed.

This is an Ultimate Edition LEGO kit, but with the play on words using Ultron instead of Ultimate. When I first saw it, I wasn’t even sure if it was a UCS edition, but the classic black and white printed specs imply that it is.

Not to worry though, because if you have some extra time a few spare bricks lying around, we have found a tutorial to bulk it up nicely: LEGO Hulkbuster Ultron Edition – Mod.

Back to the standard version, and there are a few things that I think they could have added, especially aiming for a relatively high price tag. I think they could have just splashed a few extra coins on getting it to the level that many of us have been wanting. Even if they scaled back the detail of the display stand so that they could get the suit really looking the hefty part.

Final Thoughts

While this set can be modded to look closer to the Hulkbuster suit from Infinity Wars when you are spending £119.99 do you really want to be spending more on extra pieces to get the set we actually want? So while there is a promising upgrade path, I feel it’s a bit of a letdown that I am already thinking about changing the set.

The Hulkbuster should be a goliath, Its shoulders are supper-wide and bulky, and this set just doesn’t have the heft that I personally feel it should. I have included a shot of the film incarnations of the Hulkbuster suit for you to make your own opinion.

Anyway, have a great day, and let me know what you think of the Hulkbuster suit below 🙂

When I and everyone else saw Guardians of the Galaxy, all they could think of was baby Groot. Sure baby Groot didn’t steal the show of the first instalment, he only stole the show of the entire credits, but once Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hit, everyone went baby-Groot mad! Why? Sheer, unadulterated, overwhelming cuteness of course. From the open sequence the entire audience, including myself, was captivated. And in some ways, this is Groot’s film.

Now if you love your LEGO, the first thing you probably thought was “how do I get a LEGO baby Groot?” to call my own, and really the only official sets that included a minifig of baby Groot, or possible microfig, is the Ayesha’s Revenge and The Milano vs. The Abilisk sets. But what about if you wanted a baby Groot figure you could build or one that you don’t need a high-powered magnifying glass to see? Well, I have the answer!

While searching through various LEGO MOCs, I found a beautifully realised version of baby Groot in all his button-pushing glory.

I am Groot. I am Groot. I am Groot!

Noooooo!

Designed and built by a very talented LEGO creator Markus Rollbühler, this baby Groot has an itchy trigger finger and he is ready to push the button. It’s an awesome MOC, from a truly great, possible iconic scene, In an equally amazing movie. The only thing that would make this better, is IF I could make one for myself! I hope this gets into LEGO ideas, or perhaps if we ask nice enough, Markus might well release the instructions for how to build your own.

For more on Markus Rollbühler and his amazing creations, check out his Flickr page. I have already made plans to cover a few of his other LEGO MOCs, as they really are outstanding.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

After saving Xandar from Ronan’s wrath in the first movie, the Guardians are now hailed as heroes, and as such are in demand and almost “famous”. Now the team must help their leader Star Lord (Chris Pratt) uncover the truth of his own background – who is his real father? Friendships, Allies and enemies will be tested as old foes turn to allies and betrayal is everywhere. The Guardians almost let down their guard, when they find that they are up against a devastating new foe, hell-bent on the galaxy’s destruction/imprisonment.

If you haven’t seen it, I strongly advise you should get it as soon as it is available. It’s an amazing film and a great partner to the first.

Who is baby Groot?

Believe it or not, the voice actor from the original film returns to play baby Groot, and that is no other than Vin Diesel! Not your first choice for casting a cute little baby? I’m not really surprised, but with the magic of Hollywood sound editing, Vin Diesels perfectly captures the sound of a growing, young sapling.

This review also included the results for Voltron, that had been held over from the previous review results due to “needing more time” to review the project, which probably translates to negotiating licensing and royalties for the project – which it passed and is now an approved kit.

The official LEGO video detailing the review results is below:

As an avid LEGO builder, Jacob Sadovich was inspired to create his LEGO Ship in a Bottle, The Flagship Leviathan, following a real-life ship in a bottle that he had built just a few years ago.

We’re really excited to be able to introduce Jacob’s Ship in a Bottle, The Flashship Leviathan set for its unique approach to what official LEGO sets can look like.

Voltron – Defender of the Universe

Big congratulations to len_d69 on becoming the next official LEGO Ideas fan designer!

Leandro’s passion for Voltron started at a very young age when his parents bought him a Voltron toy. From that moment on Leandro was hooked. Building with LEGO bricks allowed Leandro to celebrate his passion for Voltron – Defender of the Universe even more.

We’re really excited to be able to introduce Leandro’s Voltron – Defender of the Universe set. Leandro’s project sets itself apart for its creative way to build with LEGO bricks.

LEGO Ideas 2017 Review: My Breakdown and Reasons for Disapproval

Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The Bus LEGO set

Interesting set, but due to the size, it would be a pretty expensive kit, add to that, the feeling that it isn’t quite as finessed as some of the already existing LEGO planes lets it down a bit.

Hulkbuster UCS

For me, this a real shame as I love the Hulkbuster suit, and this is a stunning version. The problem is, in the time since this was voted for, LEGO has actually put their own Hulkbuster suit into production as part of the Marvel superheroes range. The problem with that version is, it’s just a bit meh. It’s passable, and it is in a range aimed at kids, so they have to keep costs down, but I’d have loved to see this version make it through.

Lego Store Modular Version

This is tricky, it nice, but not amazing. the novelty of having a LEGO store as a LEGO modular building might not actually turn into sales. The inside isn’t quite as interesting as say the LEGO stores I’ve been to. So I think that is why this didn’t make it – though life imitating art, imitating life is quite nice. I can imagine these being on display in LEGO stores themselves – scale replicas of the actual store 🙂

Red Dwarf LEGO

I love Red Dwarf, and my friend was even thinking of submitting a Red Dwarf inspired LEGO Idea. This set is nice, but not amazing. The set looks like Red Dwarf, but that is a bit bland. I think I’d prefer to see a Starbug if they ever release a Red Dwarf set. The other issue is that LEGO tends to like universal things, with international appeal, and I don’t know if Red Dwarf has that.

Landrover 4×4

I had a LEGO car as a child that was for all intents and purposes a Landrover. I think this would only appeal to people with a love for that particular car, as most people would just see it as a 4×4 and that has been covered by LEGO quite well already.

Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTi

After the Volkswagen Beetle and VW Campervan, why not add another iconic classic to the fold? Well, I don’t think the Mk1 GTi has quite the same widespread love and adoration as the Beetle or Camper. Though it’s fans are just as fervent, they are a smaller niche as far as I can tell. My friend would absolutely LOVE this model, in all its boxy, 80’s glory, but that is still a small market.

Vintage Tram

This is a nice, elegant model. I think something like this would be a nice addition, but it also lacks a bit of X factor. It could easily go unnoticed on the shop shelf. This has a very steampunk feel to it, and I’m sure people would love to make it. There really needs to be a way of selling MOC plans, so you can still get something for getting passed the 10,000 votes.

1950’s Diner

This looks the part, and from far away it looks quite big and costly, but on closer inspection, it isn’t as big as it seems. The designer should be very happy as they have really captured the subject, but that doesn’t mean it will translate into sales.

Ship In A Bottle, The Flagship Leviathan

What can I say? This one actually did make it though, so there is no reason to write why it didn’t. However, though this is a lovely model that will appeal to people that like ships and ships in bottles, there are still reasons this could have failed. The ship itself is quite small, but the ‘glass bottle’ has to be pretty big to accommodate the model. Will people feel like they are paying a lot for a small model and some big clear plastic bricks? Time will tell. But it does look very nice, and is a nice addition to the LEGO Ideas lineup.

UCS Rey’s Speeder

This kit has the same issues as the Hulkbuster in that LEGO already make a Rey’s Speeder! Don’t get me wrong, this LEGO Ideas version of it looks absolutely stunning, but if the RRP of that official one is around £20, then this one would easily be £60 – £100 and that may be a bit pricey for a Star Wars ship that isn’t yet a classic. There is also no precident for a LEGO Ideas creation becoming a UCS product. Maybe in a few years, they will release an Ultimate Collector Series version, but until then, we have to stick with the official version or building a MOC.

The Iron Giant

I was pretty disappointed this didn’t get through, though I am not really surprised. I absolutely love the film and have been a huge fan since its release. The problems with this LEGO Idea is that most/all of the images submitted are rendered from the LEGO digital designer (I believe), and that doesn’t mean it could actually translate to a model. LEGO obviously has certain standards, and a model should break just by looking at it. If you look at the pelvis area, I question if this small area could actually support the torso and upper body of the figure. I guess I will have to get my fix with the Sideshow Iron Giant statue instead. Oh well 😉

I hope you have enjoyed the LEGO ideas review.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Lego sets!

I have just got back from a screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and it was AMAZING! I absolutely LOVED the first movie and this one doesn’t disappoint. You will love baby Groot, you will cry with laughter and it does a good job of pulling at the heart-strings whether you are human, alien, tree-person or biomechanically altered racoon. There is something here that everyone will love.

But now it’s time to buy the LEGO sets!

While part of me pines for a more adult-targeted set (think collectors edition Star Wars style but of the Milano or something), the offerings they have are a nice addition for GOTG fans.

If you haven’t already, check out the LEGO baby Groot and prepare to want one of your own

The smallest and cheapest set in the Guardians of the Galaxy release – and also the only one that doesn’t feature a baby Groot 🙁 But it does feature a pretty sweet Rocket minifigure and also Mantis Minifigure, which is the only set to feature either. So, if you want the whole squad, and I know you do, you need to buy all three sets. Well.. actually only 2 sets, but the third will feel left out!
