Love Portal and LEGO? Support This Amazing LEGO Ideas Set!

Are you a fan of Portal, Portal 2, or Half-Life? If so, there’s a LEGO Ideas project you need to see.

Check out this Portal-themed LEGO set: [LEGO Ideas Submission](https://ideas.lego.com/projects/5bf2eccb-d18a-4637-a97e-bb3dc85e5f4c).

A LEGO Set Every Portal Fan Will Love

This LEGO Ideas project brings the world of Portal or, more accurately, Portal 2 to life with incredible detail. The design stays true to the game, featuring recognisable elements like test chambers, portals, GLaDOS as the main attraction, and yes, even Wheatley is there. There is also potential to add new sections or components to the set, enhancing its representation of iconic game features.

Whether you enjoy building for display or playing with interactive sets, this one has something to offer. The set is built with intricate details that capture the puzzle-solving nature of Portal, making it a great addition for LEGO and gaming fans alike. The design and representation of the characters and elements from the game are really cool, adding to the overall appeal of the set.

Imagine recreating iconic moments from the game using LEGO bricks. The set has the potential for interactive play, allowing you to experiment with different test chamber setups. If you love the challenge and creativity of Portal, this LEGO set is the perfect way to bring that experience into the real world.

The Portal Series and Its Iconic Characters

The Portal series, created by Valve Corporation, has captivated gamers with its unique blend of first-person puzzle-solving and dark humour. At the heart of this critically acclaimed franchise is GLaDOS, the sadistic and passive-aggressive artificial intelligence that guides players through the game’s challenging chambers.

GLaDOS’s witty banter and sinister motives have made her one of the most memorable characters in video game history. Her presence adds depth and intrigue to the game, making every interaction a blend of humour and tension. For fans of the Portal series, GLaDOS is not just a character; she is an icon.

The LEGO Ideas Campaign for GLaDOS

The LEGO Ideas campaign for GLaDOS was launched by hachiroku24, a passionate LEGO enthusiast and devoted Portal fan. This campaign aimed to bring the iconic character to life in LEGO form, capturing GLaDOS’s intricate design and unique personality.

This isn’t the first time Hachiroku2 has tackled GLaDOS or Portal Two. Their previous project quickly gained momentum, amassing the necessary 10K votes on the LEGO Ideas platform to get through to the LEGO approval stage, which unfortunately didn’t pass. This more detailed set might have what it takes to get through, as it has already hit over 3000 supporters since the 21st of January!

This overwhelming support from the community highlights the dedication and creativity of Portal fans, showcasing the potential for a LEGO GLaDOS set to become a reality. The campaign’s success is a testament to the enduring appeal of GLaDOS and the Portal series.

Design and Features of the LEGO Set

The proposed LEGO GLaDOS set promises to be a masterpiece of design and engineering. Featuring a highly detailed and poseable representation of GLaDOS, the set includes moving parts and intricate design elements that capture the essence of the character. Fans will appreciate the inclusion of iconic accessories, such as the cake from the end of Portal 1, and walls that are part of GLaDOS’s design. This set is not just a build; it’s an experience, offering a unique and challenging project that brings the beloved character to life. For fans of the Portal series and LEGO enthusiasts alike, this set is a must-have addition to their collection.

Bringing the Portal Universe to Life with LEGO

The Portal series is renowned for its rich and immersive universe, blending science fiction with dark humour. A LEGO Portal series would offer fans a new and exciting way to experience this world, with sets that bring the game’s iconic locations and characters to life. Imagine building the Aperture Science Enrichment Center or the crumbling ruins of the old Aperture facility. Each set would offer endless opportunities for creative building and storytelling, allowing fans to recreate their favourite moments from the game or invent new adventures within the Portal universe.

How You Can Help with the Project

As with all LEGO ideas sets, this set needs your support to become an official LEGO product. So, if you’re a fan of Glados from Portal or this set in particular, why not show your support?

– Click the link above.

– Hit the “Support” button.

– Share it with other Portal and LEGO fans.

Do you want to see this set on store shelves? Your vote makes a difference.

I think I supported the project when it was still at around 3000 supporters. and that wasn’t event that long ago. This set has achieved a massive amount of support in a short amount of time.

Hopefully that level of support will help it through The Lego review process, and we will soon get our very own Spongebob Krusty Crab set!

What do you think about the set? Did you support the project? Let me know in the comments below ❤️

Lego Ideas Project Description

About the model:

Introducing my very first Product Idea, a definitive MOC of The Krusty Krab from the beloved cartoon Spongebob Squarepants originally created by Stephen Hillenburg back in 1999. With (almost) every detail, plank and wall of the restaurant faithfully recreated from the show, I have also tried to capture the charming aesthetics of the Krusty Krab, which I hope fans of both LEGO and Spongebob can appreciate.

If this makes it to become a set, I think it would just be a magical experience to see iconic restaurant that we’ve always watched through a screen actually sitting on your desk and to be able to interact with it, whether it is recreating your favorite scenes from the cartoon or creating new ones from your imagination, this set is your oyster!

Background:

I was initially surprised by the lack of an accurate LEGO representation of the Krusty Krab on the internet, which given the popularity of the iconic underwater eatery, I thought many skilled builders would have been up to the task. Being a fan of both Spongebob and LEGO, I took it as an opportunity to create the best version I could. It was a fun and difficult process altogether, but this project have given me a newfound appreciation of the beautiful and genius design of the Krusty Krab. Something like that truly comes once in a lifetime!

Features:

– The complete Krusty Krab package with fully designed exterior and interior, (including the Kitchen, Office and Bathroom.) with removable roofing for complete access to the inside.

– A few fun and small builds such as the must-have “Krusty Krab” clam sign, as well as a dumpster and a boatmobile to top off the Spongebob experience. (Also includes a couple Krabby Patties. How could we forget those.)

– All 6 of the main characters in their LEGO forms! (Spongebob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, Sandy and Plankton.)

Other Info:

Number of Pieces: 2996 (It’s a miracle I was able to pull this off at that parts count.)

The model measures 32 x 48 (10 x 15 in).

Built with LEGO Digital Designer and Mecabricks.

The Lego Ideas Big Bang Theory set was designed by Ellen Kooijman AKA Alatariel. You may remember the name from the Research Institute set, and yes, it is the same designer. So not only was Ellen lucky enough to get one set passed, she actually did it TWICE! Which is quite the accomplishment I think you’ll agree?

Firsts

This set is special because it is the first time Lego Ideas made a set based on a TV show, as the few licensed properties up to now had been films and video games. This set and the design and minifigs definitely lead the way to the Friends central perk set that came a few years later.

Official Description

The Lego Ideas birds project was one of the first Lego Ideas projects to get mass appeal and coverage from many news outlets.

Master Builder

The set was created by British designer Tom Poulsom AKA DeTomaso. And though the final set featured just three models (robin, blue jay, and hummingbird), Tom had created many more lego bird designs. They are worth checking out, for inspiration if you want to add a few birds to your collection.

Official Description

Features 3 models: a Blue Jay, Hummingbird with flower, and a Robin

Includes a presentation stand for each bird featuring its Latin name

Enjoy building and rebuilding these intricate models

Display the birds using their specially designed stands

Recreate the birds that received over 10,000 votes from LEGO® Ideas members

Learn more about the species in the booklets provided

Includes building instructions and information about the creator

The perfect gift for fans of LEGO® bricks and birds alike

Blue Jay stands over 7” (18cm) tall on its stand

Hummingbird stands over 5” (15cm) tall on its stand

Robin stands over 6” (17cm) tall on its stand

HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO THE ORIGINAL PROJECT?

Well, in a similar way to the Research Institute, The Lego birds project was originally a series of birds covering about 25 birds in total. Near the end of the voting state, perhaps with Legos input, the project entered a mini voting stage where people could vote for their favourite birds within the project. From this, it was suggested that the set would feature the three birds we see in the final set.

I think there are clear reasons why some of the birds wouldn’t make it to the final three. Some for example, include what Lego would consider “illegal” building technics, and may be trickier for some people to build at home – which is why they are illegal in the first place.

The official statements are below:

Due to the new CUUSOO terms of service I have had to change the idea behind my project.

I think it would be a great shame and an anticlimax for all of my dedicated fans and supporters if there was only one bird in a set from the dozens I have built so far for this project.

So I now suggest a set of three or four recognisable birds from around the world.

Below I have listed three small birds that came top in a recent supporter vote. I think these could easily be recreated by LEGO’s professional builders.

Bobby The Robin Red Breast
Bradley the Blue Jay
Victor The Violet-eared Hummingbird

These three birds are well recognised around the world and would allow a larger target market as there is one European bird, one North American bird and a tropical bird.

In an ideal world I would like each bird to have a perch and a little plaque with information about the specific bird. I think it would be a bonus to have a soundbrick somewhere in the build with the relevant birds song or call.

If there are any concerns that LEGO CUUSOO have with creating multiple birds in one set and we have to choose just one then Bobby the Robin Red Breast would be my choice. He was the first bird I built and the inspiration behind this whole project. He is also one of the worlds most recognised small birds. If LEGO CUUSOO think that they could create a set using a different bird from my substantial collection then I would be happy for them to use one of these.

After all of the effort I have put into this project I really want it to pass the review stage so I am quite flexible with what the final set would consist of, the above are suggestions as to what I think would work best.

I find birds a great subject to build with LEGO and I’m sure from the great response I have had on this project that thousands of other people would too.

I also think that if these birds were turned into official sets they would be inspirational to both children and adults and would be a great gift for anybody.
Master Builder

This set was built by Ellen Kooijman, who goes by The Lego Ideas alias of Alatariel. This is especially interesting when you find out that Alatariel has had not on, but two sets hit the 10,000 vote marker and make it through the Lego review process to become actual sets. she also made the popular Big Bang Theory set 😱

Official Description

Explore the world and beyond at the Research Institute!

The Research Institute has everything that you need to explore the world below, around and above us! Created by real-life geoscientist, Ellen Kooijman (alias:Alatariel), and selected by LEGO® Ideas members (formerly known as CUUSOO), this collection of scenes depicts three varied professions within the world of natural science. Help the paleontologist study the origin of dinosaurs with the magnifying glass, map the skies with the astronomer and her telescope, and assist the chemist as she carries out experiments in her lab. This set also includes building instructions, as well as a booklet containing information about the creator and an introduction to each of the professions featured in the set. There’s a whole world of exciting professions out there to explore – build and role play them to see if they suit you! Includes 3 minifigures: paleontologist, astronomer and a chemist.

Includes palaeontologist, astronomer and chemist minifigures

Features palaeontology, astronomy, and chemistry scenes on a 6×6 baseplate

Palaeontology scene features a dinosaur skeleton, microscope and a magnifying glass

Astronomy scene features a telescope and a sky chart

Chemistry scene features a cabinet, tools, bottles and flasks

Discover new stars and planets through the telescope

Study the dinosaur skeleton up close

Concoct new formulas in the chemist’s lab

Gives a great insight into the world of natural science

Build the model voted for by LEGO® Ideas members

Includes building instructions and booklet with information about the creator and professions featured in the set

Each scene measures over 1” (5cm) high, 1” (4cm) wide and 1” (4cm) deep

Firsts

Ellen Kooijman AKA Alatariel is the first person to create two sets that made it to official Lego Ideas sets! And only one of two that has made it in total, the other being Andrew Clark (AndrewClark2).

This is also the first set to be branded as Lego Ideas, dropping the Cuusoo brand.

How does it compare to the original project?

The official set was released under the title ‘Research Institute’, whereas the original project was called ‘Female Minifigure Set’.

Although recently LEGO® has started to design and add more female figures to their sets, they are still a minority. A small set of minifigures would provide a great opportunity to add women to our LEGO® town or city communities. I have designed some professional female minifigures that also show that girls can become anything they want, including a palaeontologist or an astronomer. Being a geochemist myself the geologist and chemist figures are based on me:-) Due to the limitations of LDD the heads and hairstyles I used here are a bit limited. Ideally, Lego would use some ‘rare’ face and hair designs if they were to produce a set.

Each figure comes with a 6×4 base plate and a corresponding setting to enhance the building experience and stimulate creativity. The sets also come with lots of accessories, such as bones, vials, a magnifying glass, etc. I have designed 12 individual vignettes, but I imagine a selection of 3 would make a good box size.

Because the project is climbing to 10k really fast it’s time to evaluate which sets are most popular so Lego can take that into account when they review the project. Many people have left comments indicating their preferred designs – thanks! – and it is clear that the Science-based ones are favored. As such, I would like to propose that the final set will represent a versatile Research Institute comprising the labs of the Astronomer, the Paleontologist, and the Chemist:

The motto of these Scientists is clear: explore the world and beyond! The Astronomer discovers new stars and planets with the telescope, the Paleontologist studies the origin of the dinosaurs and the Chemist does experiments in the laboratory. The complete set consists of 138 parts.

Of course, the final decision is up to Lego. They could decide to produce only one of the vignettes in which case I would propose the Paleontologist. It’s also possible that they would like to make a bigger set. The Research Institute could easily be expanded with the Robotics Engineer, which is also highly popular.
https://ideas.lego.com/projects/fe58c4f9-f80b-47ac-92d0-0b66b3113b75

£15.99 / $19.99 / €19.99

This Lego Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1 set was released in 2014, and was the second Lego Ideas set that I was lucky enough to buy. It is a beautifully nostalgic set, and the original creator was definitely playing on that when it was listed as a 30th anniversary Ghostbusters set.

However, even though Ghostbusters was first released in 1984, the set managed to make the 30th year deadline, it wasn’t really Branded in that way, although LEGO does mention in in the description.

If you are a fan of Ghostbusters and have a few spare Lego bricks lying around, I would definitely get the building instructions for the set. You can get the link below 😉

This was the first Ghostbusters set, but later LEGO would release LEGO Ghostbusters video game, and a Ghostbusters BrickHeadz set. A LEGO Dimensions add-on, and another Ecto-1 for the release of the Ghostbusters ‘remake’ (75828).

Official LEGO Description
